Calsonic North America, Inc. achieved ISO 14001 certification on September 17, 2001. ISO 14001 is a global standard that recognizes companies that have systems in place to proactively manage and reduce their environmental impacts. This standard provides an overall framework for environmental management, integrating in with overall business management activity. The system includes organizational strructure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes, and resources for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing, and maintaining the environmental program. Over the last twelve months, Calsonic has worked toward the goal with certification awarded after an extensive audit by the auditing firm of TUV Rheinland. This achievement is evidence of Calsonic's commitment to environmantal protection.
While Calsonic's facilities in Japand have already achieved this status, the Thermal and Exhaust divisions in Shelbyville are the first of Calsonic's U.S. facilities to achieve certification. Current plans are to have remaining facilities certified by the end of 2002.
